Physiotherapy & Physical Therapy Rehabilitation

MGM provides both Physiotherapy and Physical Therapy to its patients. These terms are often used interchangeably, but those in practice define them in slightly different ways, particularly in how they focus on healing.

Physiotherapists typically use a manual, hands-on approach with soft tissue and fascial releases, stretches, and massages. On the other hand, physical therapy uses hands-on therapy but adds an exercise-based approach. Both educate patients through recovery on ways to manage the injury, illness, or disability and both terms carry a medical background with an overall focus on acute pain management, injury prevention, and improved flexibility. See further explanations and definitions below.

Three From The Same Family

It is not uncommon for patients to be directed to see a physical therapist, physiotherapist, or/and chiropractor when they have suffered an injury, are in pain, or need to recover from surgery. These three disciplines are very similar in that they often  treat similar conditions and many don’t know the slight differences between them.

Fortunately, Magnolia Comfort Medical practices elements of all three disciplines depending on the patient’s need.

The differences between these therapies?

Regarding the other two therapy types, in many ways, physical therapy and physiotherapy are the same. For example, they both have the same goal in treating a person’s injuries or sickness. Where they differ is the techniques they offer. Physiotherapy uses modalities of ultrasound, laser, dry needles, TENS, interferential current stimulation, massage, stretching, and joint manipulation. Physical therapy uses methods of ice and heat, exercise, manual therapy, soft-tissue mobilization, and e-stim.

Physiotherapy

According to the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, this therapy includes a range of services, interventions, and advice regarding maintenance, restoration, and improvement of a patient’s movements and function is an effort to maximize their quality of life.

According to WebMD, it’s described as “working with patients to develop customized programs designed to restore their functional ability and movement as much as possible.” Meaning it isn’t necessarily tied to recovery from an event but can be relative to other factors such as Age, Disease, Health Conditions, and other concerns. In this way, physiotherapy looks to ensure patients can live actively and independently throughout their life.

Physical Therapy

According to the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) a physical therapist is “a trained and licensed medical professional with experience diagnosing physical abnormalities, restoring physical function and mobility, maintaining physical function, and promoting physical activity and proper function,” Physical therapy treatment will focus on a specific treatment area and aim at improving personal function and movement, as well as easing acute and chronic pain,  to help patients live a restored life of normal function and mobility.

Patients seeking recovery care within physical therapy have included those in accidents or those having sports-related injuries, birth defects, growth issues, and surgeries.

Chiropractic

According to the American Chiropractic Association, Chiropractic is “a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system and the effects of these disorders on general health.”

Chiropractic care emphasizes the diagnosis and treatment of mechanical irregularities within the body with a particular focus on how joints interact with the central nervous system. Established in the 1890s as a way to avoid reliance on drugs, surgeries, and other forms of medical intervention through spinal manipulation and joint adjustment.

What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a profession that uses approaches like awareness, education, exercise, manual therapy, and advice to improve a person’s well-being and health. In times when we injure our body or suffer from an illness, our movement and function become affected, sometimes leaving us with disabilities. But physiotherapy restores the range of motion and function as well as speeds up the healing process.

Anyone can benefit from physiotherapy, and it can improve conditions related to the neurological, neuromusculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and respiratory systems. It is one of the many reasons why our chiropractor in Norcross offers this service to his patients.

How Physiotherapy Can Help You?

Have you ever felt a pain that simply will not go away? Or did you suffer an injury that left you with reduced movement and flexibility? These two issues are problematic in many ways. But, here at Magnolia Comfort Medical, LLC in Norcross, our chiropractor offers a science-based method that can rejuvenate your health and movement. This is called physiotherapy. While it sounds like something new, it, in reality, isn’t, and many doctors and therapists use physiotherapy to manage all sorts of conditions and injuries. Here is more information about it.

What To Expect

During your initial appointment with the doctor, you will be asked several questions about your pain, injury, and health. Also, they will conduct a few movement and strength tests and then, depending on the information gathered, may request an x-ray of your spine for further evaluation.

After your overall assessment, the doctor will include your goals. Each session can last from 30 to 60 minutes and might require a treatment plan including several follow-up appointments to ensure your pain ceases and the root of the cause is addressed.

If you’re unable to withstand any more pain and you are seeking non-invasive treatment, then give us at Magnolia Comfort Medical in Norcross a call today to book a session with our chiropractor. We care about your health, and we want to help you. Our number is 470-545-0275.
